EIS/SEIS/VCT venture capital

If your company requires additional funding, there are a number of venture capital schemes which offer attractive tax reliefs.

The Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS)

Your company may qualify if at the time of investment it has:

  • Less than £15million in gross assets
  • Less than 250 employees
  • Been less than 7 years since making your first commercial sale

 

There may be higher limits if your company carries out research, development or innovation and meets certain conditions.

The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS)

Your company) may qualify if it is less than 2 years old, and at the time of investment has:

  • Less than £200,000 in gross assets
  • Less than 25 employees
  • Not previously carried out a different trade

 

You will not qualify if you’ve already had investment through EIS or a VCT.

Venture capital trust
(VCT)

A VCT is a company is an authorised lender to unlisted companies that has been approved by HMRC.

Eligibility for investment through a VCT is the same as the criteria for an EIS.
